In a significant political development, Kenya’s former Ambassador to Botswana and gubernatorial aspirant for Garissa County, Mr Mohamed Muktar Shidiye, has received a resounding endorsement from the residents of Modogashe Sub-County.
The endorsement, made in what has been dubbed the Modogashe Declaration, was announced on Sunday during a gathering of key community stakeholders.
The declaration, which saw support from a broad spectrum of Modogashe residents, was made by community leaders, elders, youth, women, business leaders, professionals, and other influential figures from the area.
The collective statement firmly declared Ambassador Shidiye as the preferred candidate for Garissa County’s governor in the 2027 General Election.
In the Modogashe Declaration, the community representatives outlined their shared vision for leadership, emphasizing a candidate who can rise above clan divisions and foster unity, prosperity, and empowerment for all citizens of Garissa County.

The declaration also called for a leader who can bring peace and harmony among the county’s diverse communities.
“We, the united residents of Modogashe Sub-County, having engaged in extensive and inclusive consultations with a broad spectrum of our community, hereby solemnly declare our collective endorsement for the leadership of Ambassador Mohamed Muktar Shidiye as the unequivocal choice for Governor of Garissa County in the forthcoming 2027 General Election,” read part of the declaration.
The statement went on to praise Shidiye for his exceptional leadership qualities, integrity, and commitment to serving the people. The aspirant was noted for his deep understanding of the challenges facing Garissa residents, as well as his dedication to consensus-building and his unwavering support for national values such as democracy, human rights, and inclusivity.
“Our chosen leader must be a beacon of harmony, fostering peaceful co-existence among the diverse peoples of our county. Ambassador Mohamed Shidiye exemplifies the highest standards of moral character and integrity,” the declaration continued.

The endorsement also highlighted the need for a governor who respects the rule of law, champions participatory governance, and ensures social justice, equity, and sustainable development.
The community expressed their firm belief that these qualities were not only essential for any candidate seeking to serve as Garissa’s governor but were embodied by Shidiye.
The declaration concluded with a commitment to rally behind Shidiye’s candidacy, with representatives from across Modogashe Sub-County pledging to mobilise support for his leadership in the coming elections.
The full endorsement was signed by several prominent figures from Modogashe, including the Elders’ Representative, Youth Representative, Women Leader, Business Community Leader, and Professionals’ Representative.
This declaration marks a crucial step in Shidiye’s campaign, as he continues to build momentum for his gubernatorial bid ahead of the 2027 elections.
